Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour Continues By InsidePOOL StaffThe third round of the Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour concluded on Friday, November 21, 2003, and several players are already showing promise to be around in the finals on Sunday. This event is open to all players and began on Wednesday afternoon and will conclude on Sunday, November 23.
Shannon Daulton, who hasn't played in a major event since last January's Music City Open, where he defeated Gabe Owen twice in the finals by running seven-and-out both times, is playing very strong and looks eager to win. He played Tony Love in his third match in the winners' side. Love, the winner of last year's TAP League Nationals 5,6,7 Singles event in Las Vegas, is local to Cleveland. They were tied at 4 apiece before Daulton pulled ahead to a 8-5 lead. Love left his opponent an open shot on the 1 ball, and before he knew it, Daulton ran out that rack and broke and ran the next three to win the match 11-8.Defending champion Larry Nevel, who was the World All-Around Champion at the Derby City Classic early this year, was dealt his first loss in the third round courtesy of Fred Lane. Lane, on the hill with his opponent at 8, slopped the 7 ball off the 2 and ran out the last rack to send Nevel to the west side of the chart.Dee Adkins is back in business after his seventeenth-place tie last week at the Glass City Open and won his third match in the winners' side against tough Denver, CO, player Danny Medina. Adkins, who still is suffering from a broken arm from several months ago, seems to be steadily getting back in stroke.Danny "Kid Delicious" Basavich won his first match only to meet Chris Szuter in the second round and lose in a hill-hill battle. Viking Tour's Player of the Year, Shawn Putnam, defeated Ronnie "Everything's Funny When You're Winning Big Money" Wiseman 11-6, Tony Mougey 11-3, and then met Jose Parica.
