WPBA Great Lakes Classic Going Strong

The Women’s Professional Billiard Association’s latest event has kicked off in fine style, garnering a full 64-player field in Michigan City, IN. The Great Lakes Classic is being hosted by Blue Chip Hotel and Casino and will crown the winner Sunday, March 25.
The big final 16 is looming for tomorrow’s matches, but so far there have been few big upsets. The WPBA’s number-two ranked player, Karen Corr, was sent to the one-loss side courtesy of Hsin Huang 9-6, while Gerda Hofstatter ended up being defeated by Liz Ford 9-4. Ford had bested Japan sensation Mikuki Sakai in the first round 9-7.
Runner-up at the last WPBA event, Xiaoting Pan breezed through the first two rounds, besting Julia Gabriel 9-2 and then Wendy Jans 9-7. Crowd favorite Allison Fisher has roared through her first two matches, whitewashing Shayla Neris 9-0 and then Anna Kostanian 9-2. Meeting her in the next round, Tiffany Nelson won over Naomi Williams 9-1 and Leanne Amable 9-3.
Champion of the WPBA’s kickoff event, Ga-Young Kim is still going strong, having won over Darlene Stinson 9-2 and Zinnie Panju 9-5. She will meet Jeanette Lee in the next round, who has notched defeats over Sharon O’Hanlon 9-1 and Megan Minerich 9-4.
