West Coast Showdown in Washington By InsidePOOL Staff A tough 29-player field crowded Shotze's in Everett, WA, on November 20-21 for the Ninth Annual Fall Classic. Players came from Montana, Oregon, Canada, and Washington to play in house-sponsored tournament that is put on every three months. As the field dwindled down, one local player stayed alive, giving the crowd hope for an Everett victory. Mike Zimmerman started his day with two straight wins but came up short in the third round to Val Alvarado 9-8. However, he continued by blazing through the one-loss side to reach the semifinals. In the winners' bracket, Canadian Mike Vidas was earning convincing victories, only reaching hill-hill once. Vidas faced Alvarado in the hot seat, where he pulled away for a 9-5 win. Zimmerman had a second chance against Alvarado in the semifinals, and he showed why he is one of the best in the area, earning an easy 8-2 win. The final match was a race to 11, and it was a nailbiter. After trading games early, Zimmerman jumped to a commanding 8-4 lead, but Vidas came back with four straight to tie it up. Vidas continued his hot hand, winning the next three racks for the 11-8 victory. Results: 1st Mike Vidas 2nd Mike Zimmerman 3rd Val Alvarado 4th Alan Ima 5th Stan Tourangeau, Scott Chandler Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news in the sport of billiards and pool.
