Williams Wins Firecracker Pro OpenBy InsidePOOL StaffIn a grueling extended race to 13 in the finals of the Firecracker Pro Open, Charlie "The Korean Dragon" Williams bested Rodney Morris 13-10.  The Firecracker Pro Open is the premier tournament of the new Florida Pro Tour, which is run by John DiToro and will feature five events throughout the rest of the year and a championship in November. In the hot seat match between Williams and Morris, Williams won the first rack with a 7-9 combo after Morris missed the 7 ball.  The two traded racks until it became obvious that nothing was going Williams' way.  Morris ran several racks and played some great safeties, ultimately winning the match 9-4.
At this point, Williams had to face Adam Wheeler in the match to determine third place.  Wheeler had his first loss of the tournament to Williams earlier in the day, and this time it didn't look as if his luck had changed.  Except for the third rack, Wheeler didn't win one game, allowing Williams to win their match 9-1.Far from being a rematch of the hot seat, in the finals, neither Morris nor Williams ever gained more than a one-game lead on his opponent.  The number of balls either had missed could be counted on one hand.  The match seesawed until the score reached 10-all going to 13 when Williams won the next two games and then broke in the 9 ball on the last rack, winning by the score of 13-10.The next stop on the Florida Pro Tour will be the Space Coast Pro Open, taking place at Players Billiards in Melbourne, FL.  The event will be on August 2-3, 2003, and there will be $5,000 added.1st - Charlie Williams $3,0002nd - Rodney Morris $1,7003rd - Bill Ferguson $1,3504th - Adam Wheeler $1,000
