Wilson and Gay Undefeated
Viking Cue Open and Amateur 9-Ball Tour / Raleigh, NC

by Rick Davis
Bringing top billiard tour action to the Southeast, the Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour hit Browns Billiards of Raleigh in Raleigh, NC, over the March 10-11 weekend. Storming through the open division was Leil Gay, while in the amateur division Ken Wilson wreaked his own havoc.
In the open division Gay met Jeff Pruitt in the hot seat match, and after spanking him 9-4 was sitting pretty. Nearby on the one-loss side, Sammy Odom slipped by Danny Winters double-hill only to get bashed 7-0 in the semifinals by Pruitt. Odom had fought a great fight—after getting defeated in his first match he came back to see the semifinals. Finally Pruitt came at Gay for a rematch but was quickly repealed 9-5, giving Gay the title.
While the open action moved on, the one-day amateur event unfolded and was absolutely controlled by Wilson and Eddie Little. They blazed through the winners’ bracket, as none of their previous opponents could put together more than 3 racks against them. In the hot seat match it started to get close until Wilson caught a gear for the 7-5 win over Little. Over on the one-loss side, the quarterfinals played out with Josh Medlin eliminating 17-year-old Brad Shearer 5-3 and then giving Medlin the axe 5-2 in the semifinals. Little did his best to make it interesting in the finals, dragging the match to a second set, but Wilson stayed strong to take the set and event.
The Viking Tour would like to thank David and Inky Huffman for hosting the events and providing an excellent setting for the tour. Also, they extend a hearty congratulations on their new baby girl Alicia.
