Windy City Open 9-Ball Winds DownBy Tom Martin, InsidePOOL MagazineDay 2 of the Windy City Open events is seeing the winding down of the 9-ball events, with the open and women’s 8-ball tournaments just about to get underway. In the open 9-ball division, the field of 120 has been whittled down to just 8. Of the favorites, Jesse Bowman alone remains on the winners’ side and will face off with Tom McClusky later this evening. The other winners’-bracket match features Ike Runnels and Mark Pratico. Runnels was responsible for sending favorite Brandon Ashcraft to the one-loss side early, where later John Binion made the 9 on the snap to end his hill-hill race-to-7 match with Ashcraft to stay alive in the final eight. In the next round, Binion will square off with Chad Vilmot, and Donny Brunson tees off against Mark Doxtater.
In the women’s event, Pam Bell proved unbeatable as she cruised through the winners’ side, finally facing Chicago’s own Amy Latzko for the hot seat. Latzko awaits the match between Linda Cruz and veteran player Debbie Wilson. Eighty-seven players have registered and will soon begin play in the open division of the 8-ball events, with Jackie Broadhurst as the lone female challenger. The women’s field of 39 entrants will also begin on Friday evening. With many players giving repeat performances in both events, there is ample chance to make it an even bigger payday…or get revenge!Visit InsidePOOL for the latest in the sport of billiards and pool.
