Windy City Open Kicks Off Tom Martin, InsidePOOL MagazineThe Second Annual Windy City Open, which is being held this weekend at the Radisson Hotel in Chicago, is underway. The event kicked off Thursday with the men’s and women’s open 9-ball events. The men’s field of 121 players features some of the cream of the Midwest crop, led by favorites like Jesse Bowman and Detroit’s Brandon Ashcraft and John Binion. National champion Pam Bell heads the 28-player women’s side, being held simultaneously on the 40 3.5’ x 7’ Diamond Smart Tables set up in two ballrooms at the beautiful four-star hotel.
Sign-ups are continuing for the other events to be held this weekend, including the open 8-ball divisions and a scotch-doubles event, along with various other mini-tournaments. This four-day billiard bonanza is the brainchild of promoters Bob and Eydie Romano and not only boasts $40,000 in payouts based on full fields but promises to offer a ton of fun for all involved, both players and spectators. The guaranteed $2,000-added 8-ball tournaments are set to get under way Friday around noon.Cue makers like Leonard Bludworth and Jacoby cues are a few of the representing vendors. The event, sponsored by prominent beverage companies, such as Miller Brewing Company, Stolichnaya Vodka, and Canadian Club, also features an open amateur steak-eating contest featuring the belly-busting broilers from the hotel’s popular restaurant Algauer’s Grill, where if you can eat the entire steak, the meal is free!In following the Midwest Open and Expo, served up last November, this event looks to be a great event, dishing out ample portions of competition, fun, and money!Visit InsidePOOL Magazine for the latest in the sport of billiards and pool.
