Young Gun Gets the WinBy Bill RosenbergerRoad partners Doug Young and Floyd Reasons traveled to Kansas City, MO, on December 11-12, 2004, to put their stakes in the McDermott Midwest 9-Ball Tour at Side Pockets.  Both men finished in the top four, with Young driving toward the victory.Young, a free-firing youngster from the Midwest, won his first match, but fell to Jamie Williams 9-7 in the second round.  "Doug just bears down and fires away," said tournament director Harvey Hibner.  "But this kid can play."In the winners' bracket, Gary Serville and David Heinonen battled for the hot seat in a tight, fan-friendly match.  After Heinonen took a 5-1 lead, Serville clawed back one game at time to tie it up before he took off and ran away with a 9-6 win.   In the one-loss side, Young was busy climbing the ladder back to the top, ousting Steve Rector, Mark Churnin, Williams, and his road partner to reach the semifinals.  In another close match, Young ousted Heinonen 9-6 to reach the finals. The final was a double-elimination setup, with Young needing two sets against Young.  After falling 9-4 in the first set, Serville gained an early second-set lead.  But down two games, Young started firing and he came back to win the second set 9-5, earning a hard-fought victory.Results:1st Doug Young $7602nd Gary Serville $5803rd David Heinonen $3904th Floyd Reasons $2155th Jamie Williams, David Caron $1007th Mark Churnin, Johnny Robinson $75  Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news from the McDermott Midwest 9-Ball Tour.
